Have fun in Australia, mate
Sat Aug 02, 2008 at 10:23:16 PM PDT
Just back from the watering hole - yes I imbibed. I'm old school on barstool politics - if you want to know what Joe-6pack thinks, pull up a stool and talk to him.
I do what I can to make myself clear in barstool politics. There are 2 basic rules: Neither one of us can change a gawd-damned thing. I honestly enjoy people who see things differently than me. Some don't really get that, but in all honesty, most do. So it was with some surprise, that one of my republican friends greeted me with "I'm moving to Australia - McCain sucks as bad as that nigger" Rough language, but such is barstool politics.
Dear Hillary
Sat Mar 08, 2008 at 06:09:41 PM PDT
I have found your recent rhetoric to be unabashedly offensive. I am not a super-progressive, nor an extremist of any stripe. I am a moderate, pro working class, work-a-day schmuck who desperately would like a little bit of fairness and honesty from our federal g'ment. Naturally, I have found no allies of republican stripe.
I have always found you to be a likable, working representative of my ideals, despite the cacophony of AM radio screech monkeys.
But you have crossed a line that can never be overlooked. Your praise of John McCain, who stands for nothing less than 4 more years of Bush policy, as a distinguishment between you and your immediate rival is an insult from which I can not release you.
Let me give you a hint: Both you and Obama are now running against John McCain. Whichever of you runs better against him has my vote and my cash.
If you dally and focus your fight elsewhere, you're on your own.
Ms Clinton? As much as I admire you, you have offended me. If you think you will win this nomination, think of the cost. As it stands, as much as I admire you, you're on your own - not one red cent from my hard earned pay. If your ego demands John McCain over Barack Obama, so be it. The legacy is yours.
Jeb Bush hides out in a closet - really
Sat Oct 07, 2006 at 03:35:17 AM PDT
Jeb
came to Pittsburgh yesterday to attend a fundraiser for Little Ricky Santorum, the Pennsylvania Republican Senator from Virginia.
Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, in town for a fund-raiser for Sen. Rick Santorum, had a close encounter with a large group of anti-Republican protesters as he was making his way to the Duquesne Club, Downtown.
It was about 4:15 yesterday when Mr. Bush met up with the protesters near the corner of Liberty and Sixth avenues. The protesters were marching to join other pickets already gathered in front of the exclusive club, a little more than a block away at 325 Sixth Ave.
Protesters said Gov. Bush blew them a kiss, acknowledging the crowd of about 30 chanting pickets that was made up of United Steelworkers and members of Uprise Counter Recruitment, a tour traveling through 22 cities to support anti-war efforts.

One of the greatest comedic displays of decay was Monty Python's Lumberjack song. If you know it, you know what I'm pointing at. If not, google it.
I'll start it off with my own lame offerings. Add yours.

End of the line for Santorum's Green buddy?
Fri Sep 15, 2006 at 08:09:38 PM PDT
Saw this
blurb from AP in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's update box, and it made me smile.
HARRISBURG -- The Green Party candidate for U.S. Senate has too few valid signatures to qualify for the Nov. 7 ballot, a lawyer for state Democrats told a judge yesterday.
A review of Carl Romanelli's nominating petitions has found more than 29,000 invalid signatures -- which would leave Romanelli about 2,900 short of the 67,070-signature threshold he must meet to remain on the ballot, said the attorney, Clifford Levine.
If the Dem position pans out, it's clearly the end of the line for Romanelli's fake campaign.
How Low can he go?

Wow! What a great article to wake up to. We're well aware of Bush and the repub's sinking approvals. We wonder how low they can actually go. This
AP-Ipsos poll makes wonder if there's a floor for them to hit.

EPA Chief to get thrown under the bus?
Thu Jan 19, 2006 at 12:17:42 PM PDT
Here's an AP article from this morning that's quite damning of Bush's environmental record. Yeah I know. Dog bites man...Bush wags dog, whatever. Still, I'm surprised that it hasn't been raised here.
Ex-heads of EPA blast Bush on global warming
Republicans, Democrat say president is neglecting environment
WASHINGTON - Six former heads of the Environmental Protection Agency -- five Republicans and one Democrat -- accused the Bush administration Wednesday of neglecting global warming and other environmental problems.
a 5-1 ratio is bi-partisan under the most generous circumstances. I suppose Scottie McGibberish can paint this as a partisan attack, but if so, it's obviously a partisan, republican attack.
Saddam trial judge plans to quit
Fri Jan 13, 2006 at 03:53:07 PM PDT
Freeance and peeance are still on the march in Iraq, it appears. From
Reuters:"He wants to withdraw," the source said of Rizgar Amin, who is to preside over the next hearing on January 24. "He will oversee the next sitting and then announce his reasons for withdrawing."
Asked why the Kurdish judge, based in the northern city of Sulaimaniya, wanted to pull out of a trial that has made his face familiar around the world during long days of television coverage, he would say only: "It is too difficult."
Got rage? Linda Chavez opens her yap
Mon Sep 05, 2005 at 10:28:47 AM PDT
The
Carpetbagger points to this
must read essay in yesterday's WaPo. It's quite good, and then it quotes Linda Chavez:
In New Orleans, "you are dealing with the permanently poor -- people who don't have jobs, are not used to getting up and organizing themselves and getting things done and for whom sitting and waiting is a way of life," says Linda Chavez, president of the Center for Equal Opportunity and a former head of the U.S. Civil Rights Commission.
That's not code for anything. What she's clearly saying is: Niggers are a lazy lower class of humanity whose troubles are strictly of their own making.
It's no wonder this admin would abandon the poor in NO. It's intelligent design. Or maybe call it Faith Based Darwinism. The math is simple: The more poor that die, the more rich you have. They're pitching in to help with the concept of natural selection, and it's not costing the taxpayers a dime.
But Chevez is not done:
Defining G.W. Bush
Sun Aug 14, 2005 at 05:53:21 PM PDT
This is a rant.
Occam's Razor tells us that the simplest explanation is likely the surest. And though Bush's recent polls give us reason to hope for a reasonable future, the very idea that 40% of us has any faith that Bush, the Lessor could conduct a 4 car (non military) funeral is something that defies comprehension.

NYT: U.S. Proposal in the O.A.S. Draws Fire as an Attack on Venezuela

I haven't seen this diaried, but it's worthy of our attention.
Seems Dear Leader wants to see more freeance and peeance in Latin America. And it seems, it's not getting such a warm reception.
By JOEL BRINKLEY
Published: May 22, 2005
WASHINGTON, May 21 - An American proposal to create a committee at the Organization of American States that would monitor the quality of democracy and the exercise of power in Latin America is facing a hostile reception from many countries in part because it is being viewed as a thinly veiled effort to attack Venezuela.
Roger F. Noriega, assistant secretary of state for Western Hemisphere affairs and a principal architect of the proposal, said in an interview this week that he was "not surprised they are seeing this in the context of Venezuela," but he added, "I am determined that it not be regarded as some kind of effort to isolate Venezuela."
And if you believe that, read on.
Scotty and the IOUs
Mon May 02, 2005 at 05:28:00 PM PDT
The
Carpetbagger Report brings us this from today's White House presser.
A reporter asked Scott McClellan about the president's belief that the current Social Security system "leaves behind file cabinets full of IOUs." The journalist asked if the president is suggesting that there's a possibly that the government would default on the sovereign debt of the United States. It was a simple question -- the right answer was "no" -- but McClellan refused to cooperate.
"I think that the President, if you'll recall, went to West Virginia and stood in front of the file cabinet to point out to people what the trust fund really is. I mean, most people when they think of a trust fund, I think you would agree, believe that money is being set aside in account, and that it's their money and that they're going to receive that money back. Well, that's not the case. In terms of the so-called Social Security trust fund, it is a file cabinet of paper IOUs. And that's what it is."
Though he didn't call them worthless IOUs, the point seems clear that the Bush admin sees little of value in these IOUs.

Hypo Rossi to challenge WA Gov vote
Fri Jan 07, 2005 at 04:41:53 PM PDT
Didn't see it mentioned, so I thought I'd post it up.
BELLEVUE, Wash. - Republican Dino Rossi and the state Republican Party announced Friday that they would contest the governor's election that gave his Democratic opponent, Christine Gregoire, a 129-vote victory.
I know I shouldn't be surprised by this, but Rossi is setting a new standard for being a 'sore loser'.

U.S. generals told of detainee abuse early
Confidential December 2003 report offered warning
By Josh White
Updated: 10:45 p.m. ET Nov. 30, 2004
A confidential report to Army generals in Iraq in December 2003 warned that members of an elite military and CIA task force were abusing detainees, a finding delivered more than a month before Army investigators received the photographs from Abu Ghraib prison that touched off investigations into prisoner mistreatment.
The report, which was not released publicly and was recently obtained by The Washington Post, concluded that some U.S. arrest and detention practices at the time could "technically" be illegal. It also said coalition fighters could be feeding the Iraqi insurgency by "making gratuitous enemies" as they conducted sweeps netting hundreds of detainees who probably did not belong in prison and holding them for months at a time.
Much of this seems familiar, but it's still very troubling. Call it another log on Bush's fire of failure - if it gets it's due media play, that is.

Common decency.
Think I'm silly? Think through any of the outrages of the past four years - Enron, Abu Graib, Swift Boaters, `Purple heart' band-aids. Smearing Richard Clarke, or outing Valerie Plame. there is a moral crisis in this country that can only be described as a lack of common decency.
